Compared to team activities, there are not many people who box. Everyone knows someone who played high school football or basketball, but how many know a person who boxed? Probably not many. Boxing is often seen a loner sport, regulated to dark gyms in the bad part of town. Not to mention, they probably don’t see a point in boxing if they aren’t competing.
What a shame. It’s a shame people like this are missing out on one of the most enjoyable and engaging sports there are, with a rich history stretching back to the Roman era, if not before.
The day of the outdated, dark and seedy gym, so common in the movies, is long gone. Modern gyms are large and bright, with plenty of room to practice. The instructors are fit and most likely former competitors themselves. Sorry Mickey, your day is over.
Just as with any martial art, boxing is a great way to stay fit and have fun while boosting self-confidence and learning a skill. Whether you plan to ever compete or not doesn’t matter. There are far more people who learn boxing and never compete than people who do.
Some do it for the confidence boost. Some do it to get in shape or tone up. Some do it for the challenge. No matter what your reason for boxing, it is an infinitely rewarding experience that should not be missed out on just because of its portrayal in modern media. And while it may not be as common as MMA any longer, boxing is a key aspect of that sport as well.
So if you want a rich and fulfilling activity to help you along life’s path, check out boxing. While there are plenty of different martial arts available at Premium Fitness, boxing has the longer history and prestige of any of the others. Except maybe wrestling.
